We are living in a finite world with finite resources. Green businesses around the world are realizing that, and so, the need for sustainable products and services are increasing globally. With the global environmental awareness growing, companies are trying to figure out what products, services, and technology can be developed in order to minimize impacts on the planet.

With this goal, came the need for environmental professionals. Every company in the United States has been trying to go green. They are finding ways to use reusable materials and energy, and also trying to minimize waste.  Most companies today would hire some kind of environmental professional, or develop a team to take care of the environmental concerns.

Top paying environmental professionals jobs

Those of us who are concerned about our environment and want to improve the world we love, want to work in a green business. We are trying to save the world, but wouldn’t it be nice if we could earn top dollars for doing what we love to do?

Forbes says “…there are many career opportunities that integrate sustainability into mainstream businesses. Many companies don’t understand what to change because they don’t have the experience or expertise. There is a tremendous opportunity for people with the understanding and tools to implement more sustainable businesses.”

It has already been reported that there was an increase in the number of environment related job postings on several of the online job sites. TheLadders.com, a job search site reported that there was about 25% increase in environmental jobs that pays over $100,000 or more a year.

High demand environmental careers

success-846055_1280The market for environmental professionals is expanding and it is expected to grow more than many other professional sectors in the future. Below are some of the careers you may consider.

Environmental Engineers

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for environmental engineers is expected to grow by 22 percent. This is because there will be need for cleaning up the contamination of water, soil, and air. Also there is need for engineers to keep the environment safe and to develop products and technology that do not negatively impact the environment.

Environmental Engineering Technicians

Environmental engineer technician jobs are expected to increase by 24%, to accompany the environmental engineers, says Chron.com.

Environmental scientists

Career opportunities for environmental scientist are projected to increase by 19%.

Science and Protection Technicians

According to Chron.com, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects jobs for environmental science and protection technicians to grow by 24 percent to keep up with the growth of their supervisory environmental scientists and specialists.

How much can you expect to earn?

windmill-787894_1280As with any other professional career, your salary would depend on your expertise, education and training. There are entry level jobs available that pay well in the green industry, but to get a high paying job you must acquire some special skills.

The salary range would also vary depending on the nature of your work. U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows that the median annual wage for environmental scientists and specialists was $63,570 in May 2012.  Job Outlook, 2012-22 is projected to be 15% faster than average.
